Gas content testing

Gas content is a fundamental measurement describing the gas reservoir. It is a static measure of the quantity of gas contained in a given mass of material.

GeoGAS offers both the slow and fast desorption methods of gas content testing. Both tests are carried out in accordance with AS3980-1999.

Since its inception GeoGAS have undertaken more than 20,000 gas content determinations, the vast majority by the fast desorption method.

The main difference between the slow and fast methods is the time taken. The slow method typically takes two to six months. The fast method can be completed with gas composition analysis in less than two hours. The method has been extensively researched, including two ACARP projects with BHP and CSIRO. Direct comparisons have demonstrated equivalence between slow and fast gas desorption testing.

The speed of the fast desorption method not only facilitates mining at planned production rates but also allows exploration programs to be modified mid stream.
